FOR THE LOVE OF INDIE DESIGNER: CHICA DE CANELA
i can never say enough of the independent designers out there..it is an obsession and i so wish i had the funds to support them by buying their goods..very tempting..one such accessories designer on my radar is Chica De Canela..a designer from Spain with a name that pretty much sums up her designs..very sweet and very cute!
since i heart vintage so much it's no wonder that my eye pretty much always gravitates towards that route..i love all the cutsie delicate pieces with the cross stitch vintage inspired designs..
also love her girl necklaces, key chains and crochet hair clips..
aaaand cutsie wallets and purses..

you can buy her designs via her website at chicadecanela.com and also check out her trade show photos and other designs via her flickr..

CHICK NIGHT + WEEKEND HAPPENINGS!
it was a pretty disappointing movie pick this past "chick night"...i decided to pick a current film since lately we have been strictly watching 80's films and went with what was edited to look funny Ghost From Girlfriends Past, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner..like every big Hollywood film it had the always very predictable plot which in the end "bad boy" always get's "the girl" blah..so tired of these movies unlike the classic films..i know i know i sound like a grouch but i was so annoyed by Mister McConaughey, who always seems to play the same rico sauve man role i had enough! Zoe on the other hand liked Miss Jennifer Garner but admitted to the cheese factor and we had to skip over several overly sexual scenes...it's rated PG-13 which she's almost 13 but sometimes you think it's just language and it looks funny BUT nope it's all about sex...jeez
currently we both are hooked on 21 Jump Street..we are now on Season 2 doing all I believe 6 Seasons on Netflix through WII..we love WII TV! i realized how much i missed watching this show it was part of my childhood..i was 10 when i first watched it and i had already developed the biggest crush on Mister Depp! the flash back on all the cool late 80's fashion is the best..oh and Holly Robinson is the cutest! i also had the biggest crush on Richard Grieco but now watching it, i don't understand why i thought he was so cute...he wore more make up then me! it's crazy how i'm watching classics (in this case 80's classics) with Zoe..wow, it feels like yesterday, truly...
oooh i heart my acid wash jean jacket...
the later years..i don't remember Johnny Depp having a mullet..
i had posters like this plastered all over my room...now Zoe is plastering Justin Bieber and Robert Patterson posters all over hers..
he looked so cute as a punk in this episode..
Zozo and i really enjoy where we live in a little town up by the mountains of Pasadena in L.A...it's so quiet, peaceful and quaint but just close enough to the city which is perfection for us..it still has most of it's Historical buildings, the town was founded in 1899..i heard that years later it became a hippie community in the 60' through the 90's..you still see allot of that influence here...it has a good amount of "mom and pop shops" and we enjoy walking to them, it's a nice perk..we have the best local pizza shop and i don't mind having this as my back drop as we eat..

EARTH DAY!
honestly i am not big on it's "so & so day", i really don't even know half of them..just the other week i found out it was bare foot day because my darling daughter let me know..so i can't pretend that i observe any of them or that i share any big concern for today's celebration, but in my own day to day life i am conscious of the things i do..i do recycle (here in California you pay up the wa-hoo on plastic and glass tax) and i do not litter..i am the kind of gal that will run after that paper napkin that flies of an outside table while a car almost runs me over..i shop at farmers markets more for the fact that i like supporting local farmers and the fact that i don't want to eat hormone injected meat and eggs! whether that's saving the environment i'm not even thinking about that..
i do observe my surroundings, enjoy nature, love the ocean and hate any type of senseless waste..i learned that lot's of the clothing that does not get bought at thrift stores and rag houses are converted into wipe rags, recycled for yarns, books textiles and will eventually be dumped into land fills...so it would be a shame to let perfectly good clothes (beautifully made one of a kind clothes) go to waist!
i'm happy to be part of an industry that recycles vintage clothes and i love that i can take a garment that otherwise would be frumpy or overlooked and make it wearable for today's market and / or bring it back to life to tell another story in someone else's closet!
so although i'm not celebrating today's Earth Day in some significant way if my day to day actions help the environment then good, i'm glad....

FROM THE ARCHIVES: KATE SPADE SPRING 06
old 2001 Vogue, 2001-06 Nylon magazines with my tear outs in binders
collecting magazines and tear outs is something i have been doing since i was 14..i love going back into the old magazine's and walking back in time in my own memory and seeing the fashions of the day and those ads like my beloved Bonnie Bell & Coty makeup remembering how i begged my mom to buy me ALL..teenage me
some of my oldest is a 91 or 92 Seventeen Magazine with Liv Tyler and Evan Dando on the cover and of course all the Grunge fashions in display..it's great to see how fashion just keeps getting recycled in new and different ways and some are pretty much the same...this makes me wish my mom would of kept hers..now you buy them for allot of $$$$
when i step into my old archives i fall in love with the fashion all over again it also reminds me of how time flies..i bumped into the cutest Kate Spade Spring 2006 ad campaign tear sheets...basically a combination of desert, vintage inspired hand bags, antique shopping and cute bow heeled sandals with bright colored socks...can't get better then that!
so i went digging into the on-line archives and included some of my own tear sheets since i like the closer details of mine..
the following images are scanned from my book of archives..so a bit fuzzy
i so love the dress with socks and heeled sandals, so cute..
i also loved this 2006 Spring ad campaign as well along with this owl bag, would love to get my hands on it...
